The Scribe We Make Art Visible Fred’s Late-Blooming Art Career Fred Fochtman took an unusual path to becoming an artist. After finishing his business degree at The Ohio State University, he spent years working in marketing and business. But something felt missing from his life. The problem was that Fred had barely touched the arts during his entire education, it wasn’t until his very last quarter of college that he finally took an art class. That single class opened his eyes to what would later become his true calling. However, it took another 15 years before Fred made the leap. He enrolled as a working student at The Columbus College of Art & Design, taking evening classes to learn the basics of drawing and painting, with his professors later becoming his lifelong friends and supporters of his art career. Finding Beauty in the Ordinary Fred paints from direct observation, focusing on everyday scenes that most people overlook rather than obviously pretty subjects. He sees his subjects as abstract shapes, colors, and edges instead of actual objects. This approach helps him capture subtle shifts in light and color within larger spaces. Fred says this way of seeing, breaking down ordinary views into exclusive color and value shapes - is what excites him most about painting and keeps him learning with each new work. QUICK SCROLL Ohio painter who left business behind to explore light and form in everyday scenes.   fredfochtman.com Fred Fochtman’s Art in Full Bloom VOL 2 | NO. 8 | AUGUST 2025 | COMMUNITY COPY - READ & SHARE!
